Coordination between the government and private sector on cybersecurity is lacking and could have disastrous consequences, according to a report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released Monday.
According to the report, the federal government is not providing the private sector with timely and actionable information on cyber threats and necessary precautions. Companies complained specifically about their lack of access to classified information on cyber threats and the absence of a single centralized government data source on cybersecurity. Similarly, the government said the private sector is often unwilling to share proprietary information on the risks companies face.
