A fellow contributor at Forbes trots out “cyber Pearl Harbor” as a reason why Microsoft should get an exception to Trump’s travel ban:
Allowing these foreigners to come on U.S. soil is not only the right thing to do, it’s also smart from a national security standpoint. We can’t afford to lose these smart thinkers from our country, even for a short period of time. They are filling critical jobs that tech companies like Microsoft depend on to adequately protect our cyber security.
Perusing the headlines, it is easy to understand our country is currently undergoing a cyber war. We are under constant threat from countries like China, Russia, and North Korea. Former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has even said that we are open to a “cyber pearl harbor,†while former Deputy Secretary of Defense William Lynn believes cyberspace has become “just as critical to military operations as land, sea, air, and space.â€
I mean, I’ve been as critical of the travel ban as the next guy. But trotting out cyber Pearl Harbor seems a little much.
